During National Nurses Week last week, a TV station in Indiana profiled a mother-daughter nursing team who work in the neonatal intensive care unit at Ascension St. Vincent Women’s Hospital in Indianapolis, part of Ascension Indiana.
Cathy Johnson has been a nurse in Indianapolis for 40 years. She originally wanted to be an airline stewardess, but a fear of heights led her to nursing. Cathy has been a Maternal Fetal Medicine nurse at St. Vincent Women’s Hospital since 1977.
Now, her daughter Suzie Miles, RN, works with her in the NICU.
Suzie said her mom’s passion for her work inspired her to follow in her footsteps. Mom and daughter say working together strengthens their bond.
When I go up there and I see her taking care of patients that I’ve taken care of, it just brings me so much comfort,” Cathy said.
