Recently, the Saginaw [Michigan] Spirit hockey team presented a check for $5,860 to the Ascension St. Mary’s Foundation and Seton Cancer Institute from the team’s Pink Out Hockey Game, held last October.
Over the past 13 years, this event has raised more than $62,625 for the Ascension St. Mary’s breast care fund, which helps provide mammograms and follow-up ultrasounds for qualified uninsured individuals.
Last fall’s Pink Out hockey game honored more than 50 breast cancer survivors by name at a pregame ceremony on center ice.
“The reason we have so many survivors is from events like this raising the public awareness that breast cancer is a treatable disease,” said Stephanie Duggan, MD, Regional President of Ascension St. Mary’s in Saginaw and Standish and Ascension St. Joseph in Tawas City, part of Ascension Michigan.
