Patients share tales of great care through storytelling

A new series of videos by Ascension Marketing shares patient stories of compassionate, personalized care.

In this brief video, Allen Golightly talks about how he came to have a total knee replacement surgery by Michael Martin, MD, at Ascension St. Vincent's in Birmingham, Alabama.

He knew it was time to take care of his knee when, on a trip with his grandchildren to Disney World in Orlando, Florida, he needed to use a motorized cart to get around.

"I was led to Dr. Martin through prayer," Allen said. "[I] heard about him through another doctor in the same office, and I prayed about it, and I was sent to him. … I couldn't ask for a better partnership."

Allen plans to take seven grandchildren to Disney World next time, and "I'll be on my own two legs, running around and chasing after them," he said.

The storytelling videos will be shared via social media and email, on ascension.org, and internally through intranets, e-newsletters and other appropriate channels.

"It's important to share and amplify the important work of our care teams as told through the stories of our patients," said Nick Ragone, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, Ascension. "Our Mission comes to life through these powerful stories which are a testament to the amazing and compassionate care Ascension is blessed to provide to those we serve every day."
